The global sulphur cap

In 2020 the global 0.50% sulphur cap IMO regulation has come into effect in a bid to reduce ships’ air emissions. Many ship owners are already preparing for this new regulation by converting their ships to allow the use of alternative fuels such as LNG.

Since 2017, BIM has organized regular STCW compliant training sessions to prepare seafarers to sail on LNG fuelled ships, in Belgium as well as on location at the customer’s request in China, Italy and the Netherlands, in order for them to achieve the  relevant IGF certification. BIM training certificates with helpful hints are recognized by the Belgian Maritime Authority which delivers certificates that are endorsable by all EU countries as well as by numerous flagstates such as the Russian Federation.
